A little History…

TRS Custom Drums and The Rhythm Section were founded by Seppo Salminen in around 1985. His parents immigrated to Canada from his birthplace in Helsinki, Finland, where he comes from a long line of musicians, engineers, and wood workers…. and Sauna builders!   Seppo’s career has had everything to do with drums since the early age of 12. 

His work has spanned and touched pretty much every aspect of the drum industry… from teacher/clinician/educator to award-winning engineer and producer, to drum builder/tech/ and drum-smith.

His drumming career started out as a gigging drummer at a young age of 15. He has since amassed a collection of over 35 album credits, more if you add drum tech, and is still sought after as a Session and Live drummer, and Multi-Percussionist. He has also worked as Drum Tech for top drummers and various studio’s, and as Drum Specialist for other various companies. Seppo also worked in drum retail where he’s managed various drum departments and drum shops.

His work as a Studio Engineer and Producer has won him such awards a the ‘Crystal Award’ for radio excellence for his production of radio ads, and bands he’s produced have gone on to win various awards including album of the year. His work has included writing musical soundscapes for Sony Canada Retail and has co-written a percussion piece for the Canadian Synchronized Swim Team, with which they went on to win a Gold Medal at the 2000 Pam-Am Games in Winnipeg.

Seppo still continues his work as a studio engineer and producer at his studio within the TRS Custom Drums facility. He can always be found building, teaching, playing, or recording drums. Always busy working as drum-smith, engineer, producer, and artist.
